Okay, I get it. I need new bath towels too, and I’m being a broken record here in telling you that the Frontgate Resort Cotton Bath Towel is the most-purchased Wirecutter pick this month. It hasn’t left the top-five list in quite some time. But so many of our readers needed new towels in July that frankly I’m a little alarmed. It’s like one of those “help me budget” memes—but instead of flamethrowers and avocado toast, readers are out there buying plush, colorful towels in lieu of paying rent and feeding their cats.

What else are Wirecutter readers buying besides towels? Well, it’s summer, so mosquito control gear and other insect repellents, alongside fans and portable air conditioners, are unsurprisingly still in demand. Also popular this month: Wi-Fi routers (and wireless extenders for boosting your signal), Lightning cables, memory-foam pillows, nonstick pans, car phone mounts, air purifiers, sous vide gear, robot vacuums, wireless earbuds, portable Bluetooth speakers, electric toothbrushes, and travel plug adapters.

Why use a plastic bag when you can simply screw on this end cap, specifically designed for Sawyer water filters?

In future, I’ll use gravity when I can, and squeeze when I have to.

For longer hikes, it’s convenient to carry a small backcountry water filter, such as a Sawyer Mini or Micro, which allows you to replenish your water from natural sources like streams or ponds.
